JDRF is currently seeking a Scientific Program Specialist in the Beta - Cell Replacement & Regeneration Therapeutic Areas of our Research department in New York City. The overall scope of the job is to aid in the determination of scientific program priorities, goals & funding levels as well as track research progress of funded grants with a focus on Beta - Cell Replacement & Regeneration in type 1 diabetes.
In addition, the Scientific Program Specialist will assist in planning, evaluation & management of JDRF research grants, program projects, training award programs, collaborations, & coordinate reviews for the two programs. Furthermore s/he will be responsible for the establishment of guidelines for determining progress & impact of these programs, & assessing progress reports.
Other responsibilities include:
• Plan/oversee review of grant applications & implement the budgetary recommendations of the review committee.
• Responsibility for scientific administration of regular & ad-hoc review processes & support of program area work with JDRF staff/volunteer committees
• Communicate with researchers to provide process information appropriate to the application & review process.
• Liaise & collaborate with JDRF Research committees, grantees, applicants, & appropriate organizations including academic departments of universities, & other government & non-governmental research organizations.
We are seeking a dynamic individual with a Master of Science & 3+ years of additional relevant experience in grants administration, laboratory research, or management of biomedical research programs. Knowledge of type 1 diabetes and/or biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience is desirable. Excellent verbal & written communications skills, ability to multi-task & work in a fast paced environment, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite), & a willingness to work as part of a team are a must.
Approximately 10% travel required.
Salary based on experience.
