The Novartis Biologics site in Cambridge, MA is actively recruiting entrepreneurial scientists at all levels to continue building a strong development organization dedicated to delivering biologic therapies that improve the lives of patients. NBx provides support for biologic projects during both early stages of research and later stages of development and commercial production. The Protein Science and Design group of NBx will develop and establish best practices for therapeutic recombinant protein expression, purification and analytical characterization technologies.
The Protein Design group at Novartis Biologics is recruiting dedicated Scientific Associates with relevant education and lab experience to help establish and work in the Molecular Biology lab. The molecular biologists will engineer and manipulate genes that encode candidate therapeutic proteins such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody fragments, and other proteins. The team will design and build expression vectors to incorporate site-directed amino acid mutations, epitope tags, fusion proteins and protease cleavage sites to facilitate optimal target protein expression and utilization. Familiarity and extensive experience with recombinant DNA methods, including vector construction, small and large scale plasmid DNA preparation and restriction map analyses are required.
Scientific Associates should have significant experience and be proficient in using recombinant DNA vectors to drive protein expression in microbial and eukaryotic platforms. Experience with transient and stable expression methods using mammalian host cell (e.g. HEK-293, CHO-K1) transfection procedures is desired.
The molecular biology team will optimize traditional recombinant protein expression systems or develop innovative expression technologies to improve target protein quality and yields. The Scientific Associate should be able to understand and apply relevant scientific research literature with limited input from supervisor and is expected to maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks. The individual should be creative, highly-motivated and will work collaboratively across teams. Interpretation of data and presentation of results in consultation with supervisor is expected.
Qualifications
A M.S or B.S in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field with 2-3 years of research lab experience in an academic or biotech setting is required.
