The Novartis Biologics site in Cambridge, MA is actively recruiting entrepreneurial scientists at all levels to continue building a strong development organization dedicated to delivering biologic therapies that improve the lives of patients. NBx provides support for biologic projects during both early stages of research and later stages of development and commercial production. The Protein Science and Design group of NBx will develop and establish best practices for therapeutic recombinant protein expression, purification and analytical characterization technologies.

The Protein Design group at Novartis Biologics is recruiting dedicated Scientific Associates with relevant education and lab experience to help establish and work in the Protein Purification lab. The Scientific Associate should be proficient in using standard protein purification methodologies including, tangential flow filtration, size-exclusion HPLC, reverse phase HPLC, ion exchange and affinity chromatography to achieve protein purification objectives. Significant experience using ELISA, gel electrophoresis and other biophysical measures to detect, characterize and quantify target proteins is required.

The Scientific Associate should have experience with harvesting and purifying recombinant proteins from microbial cell pellets and from large volumes of supernatants from shaker flask, fermenter, bioreactor and WAVE bag cultures of engineered microbial cells and mammalian cell lines.

The Protein Purification team will develop robust, well-documented large scale expression and purification process methods that can be efficiently transferred to downstream colleagues for further refinement. Selection criteria will include protein solubility, stability, aggregation state and preservation of desired binding specificity.

The Scientific Associate should be able to understand and apply relevant scientific research literature with limited input from supervisor and is expected to maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks. The individual should be creative, highly-motivated and will work collaboratively across teams. Interpretation of data and presentation of results in consultation with supervisor is expected.
