The Process Science & Production group at Novartis Biologics is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. scientist with relevant experience to establish an analytical lab.

We are currently seeking a Lab Head with significant Mass Spectrometry experience. The Lab Head will lead an analytical laboratory with the goal of characterizing proteins utilizing high-end Mass Spectrometry instrumentation.

The team will develop and implement state-of-the-art methods for the identification and characterization of intact pharmaceutical proteins as well as their posttranslational modifications degradation products.

The team will support biopharmaceutical development functions and analytical R&D for all analytical development activities and ensures compliance with all valid quality guidelines and regulations (GxP, QA, etc.).

The Lab Head will be able to work independently, build/manage a team, and organize research programs, but also take scientific direction from Unit Head and Novartis project leaders.

The Lab Head is expected to be very collaborative and will effectively represent the Protein Sciences & Production group on assigned cross-functional Novartis Project Teams.

A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related field with 3-5 years of relevant postdoctoral or biopharmaceutical experience required.
Expert knowledge in Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF, Q-TOF, LC-MS) with hands-on experience in Q-TOF application.

Requires excellent knowledge of protein biochemistry and analytical instrumentation. Solid management skills with respect to planning/tracking, priority and project timelines.

Supervisory experience as well as hands-on lab work in a flexible, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment is required.

Excellent written, oral communication and data presentation skills to facilitate interactions with colleagues within Novartis Biologics and throughout Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research.
Critical and objective interpretation of results and scientific information.

Previous experience in analytical method development and familiarity with GMP requirements and quality guidelines highly desirable.
