The Percivia PER.C6® Development Center develops the PER.C6® human cell line for recombinant proteins.  PERCIVIA offers an integrated technology platform for protein production and provides customers a hands-on experience of the PER.C6® technology.  The PER.C6® platform encompasses cell line generation technology, cell culture development, and downstream processes, design, scale-up, technology transfer, and regulatory support.  High yields in combination with the fully human glycosylation properties, make the PER.C6 cell line an attractive platform for the production of proteins, including monoclonal antibodies.

Overall Function of this Position

Initiate, direct, and execute scientific research and development of state of the art process technologies for the application of a human cell line in the mass production of recombinant proteins. Lead groups within the Upstream Process Development team in performing and developing techniques that include medium and cell culture technology development, scale up, and tech transfer. Plan and execute laboratory research. Provide direction on current best practices and generate new technologies.

Leadership:

  • Strong managerial and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on the ability to inspire and motivate the team to explore and innovate in cell culture techniques.
  • Recruit and retain talented individuals in the areas of cell culture, medium development, metabolic engineering, cell culture process development, scale-up, and tech transfer. The candidate must be able to generate an energetic and innovative working environment to foster creativity and staff’s career development.

Creativity:

  • The candidates must possess a proven record of developing high-performing cell culture processes, preferably with different types of proteins and using different cell lines, and to have worked in a multitasking environment.
  • The candidate has to be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be able to prioritize according to the business needs. The candidate will work closely with the USP Senior Director to provide insights and feedback on Research Program. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to plan tasks and resources, and to document work properly.

Communication:

  • Candidate must have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills to transfer technology both from parent organizations as well as to partners around the world

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

Minimum Education Required

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering

Experience Necessary to Perform the Key Functions of the Job

  • 10+ years mammalian cell culture process development industry experience
  • Strong leadership/management experience leading teams of up to 5 direct reports
