Scientist II, Analytical Biochemistry
The Analytical Biochemistry group in Research uses state of the art instrumentation and technologies to characterize the primary amino acid sequences and post- translational modifications on proteins. This information is integral to the development of biologic drug candidates as well as to support basic research.
We are seeking an expert in mass spectrometry to join our group. The successful candidate will develop strategies, carry out experiments, perform analyses and interpret mass spectrometry and other analytical data to characterize proteins. The individual will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate analytical work for multiple projects and will prepare written reports as well as present findings at relevant forums. In partnership with the project biochemist the candidate will provide the leadership needed to make candidate product quality decisions. He or she will be expected to maintain the mass spectrometers and guide/train group members to operate the instruments and interpret the data.
The candidate must be an expert in mass spectrometry with excellent analytical laboratory instrumentation skills and should have a strong publication record in the field. The candidate should be self-motivated, well organized, good problem solving skills, strong oral and written communicator and work well in teams. Experience in working with small quantities of samples, use of Q-TOF-type and Orbitrap/ETD mass spectrometers and nano-flow HPLC systems, and in interpreting MS/MS data for unknown components is highly desirable. A working knowledge of protein purification and protein expression systems and experience in the study of protein-protein interactions and epitope mapping by HDX-MS are pluses.
Education Ph.D. in Analytical Biochemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline with at least 5 years of post-PhD experience, preferably with some industrial drug discovery training.
