We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and motivated individual for an animal facility supervisor position to aid in the oversight of daily animal care operations.
The person in this position will handle the following responsibilities:
• Provide supervision for animal facility staff to include coordination of daily work activities, ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulations, policies and guidelines
• Assist the facility manager in the development and daily oversight of the animal care and use program
• Review, update and create SOP’s as needed
• Participate in employee performance reviews and development planning
• Provide assistance and training to animal facility and investigative staff
• Provide oversight and scheduling of equipment and physical plant maintenance and repairs
• Coordination of animal and supply procurement
• Coordination of the animal import/export process
• Coordination of quarantine and sentinel health surveillance programs to include scheduling of diagnostic tests and sample submissions
• Maintain animal facility databases
• Perform other duties as assigned
Other:
• 40 hours per week, weekends and holidays may be required on a rotating basis.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of six to eight years directly related laboratory animal experience with at least three years supervisory experience
• Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the LATG level, and CVT certification is preferred
• Knowledge and experience of animal husbandry and sanitization requirements, and cagewash operations
• Knowledge and experience in proper methods of small laboratory animal husbandry, handling and restraint, injection and sample collection techniques and euthanasia procedures
• Advanced understanding of colony health status requirements and applicable animal care regulations
• Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with investigators, contractors, vendors, and staff
• Sound judgment and decision making skills, effective written and verbal communication and supervision skills
• Excellent organizational and observational skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to lift, push/pull 50 pounds
