Computational Biologist
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY Develops algorithms and methods to address computational problems as they relate to interpreting biological data and solving key problems in genomics research. Determines project design and implements research. Analyzes technical problems and modifies project design to optimize results. Compiles and presents project results. Collaborates with other researchers to develop tools that support research objectives. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES • Designs and implements research projects. Works with laboratory collaborators to plan experiments. Updates project plans as necessary. • Determines the methods and experimental controls to be used in research. Implements any changes in methods. • Applies computational principles and standard practices to design software based computational tools and methods. • Collaborates with others to analyze results and to address computational problems. Proposes alternative methods, and adjusts tool and method design as necessary to support research objectives. • Consults literature or others from the at large scientific community as needed. • Implements software and database systems to support lab staff as needed.- Ph.D. in Biology, Math, or relevant scientific discipline required. - Must have 3-5 years of experience designing computational methods and tools, including prior experience with algorithms and mathematical theory. - Must have an established research record commensurate with level of experience. - Must be able to work well on a team.The Broad Institute was launched to pioneer a new model of collaborative biomedical science that would transform medicine.
