2nd Annual Statewide Biotechnology Job Shadow Day

Wednesday, June 8 2011

MassBio and MassBioEd are joining forces to conduct our largest statewide Biotechnology Job Shadow Day and we invite you to join us in our efforts to build tomorrow’s biotechnology workforce today!

Job shadows are designed to give local high school students the opportunity to experience the very real connection between classroom science and the science that drives our biotechnoloShadowgy industry. Your company could be instrumental in helping students realize the career opportunities that exist in the life sciences and encourage them to pursue a science based education.

Our 2010 statewide job shadow day events were a tremendous success involving over 400 students and teachers and over 300 volunteers from the following life science companies: Abbott Bioresearch Center, AstraZeneca, Avecia Biotechnology, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Cubist Pharmaceuticals, EMD Serono, EMD Millipore, Formatech, Mass General Hospital, MicroTest Labs, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Shire, and Wolfe Laboratories.  The corporate community was highly responsive and eager to participate and the high schools were excited, well prepared, and cooperative.

This year we plan to reach over 650 students and teachers and we need 20 life science companies to help us accomplish this goal. Please join us in hosting approximately 30 students from a local BioTeach high school in a half-day format providing hands-on exposure to your work environment. MassBioEd is committed to reducing your company’s administrative burden and will act as liaison between your company and the school.
