The Connors-BRI Center for Women’s Health & Gender Biology will host a workshop in September 2013 that focuses on sex differences in the etiology, pathogenesis and consequences of obesity. This workshop will address:

  • Sex differences in the biology of obesity including the genetics underlying body composition, neuroendocrine control of obesity and the contribution of sex differences to adipocyte biology
  • The different  facets of obesity over the life course as it relates to women, including racial, ethnic and socioeconomic differences contributing to childhood obesity, obesity during puberty and adolescence, obesity during pregnancy, postpartum and menopause
  • Sex differences in co-morbidities associated with obesity including sleep disorders, emotional eating, stress and depression
  • Interventional strategies for obesity with emphasis on women/sex differences ranging from prevention (lifestyle) to treatment (pharmaceutical options, surgery) from the individual to populations (public health solutions)
