I would like to invite you to the first Vilnius Innovation Forum 2013 “Innovation Drift”, which will be held on 4-6 December, 2013. The Forum, which is part of Lithuania’s Presidency events of the Council of the EU, is organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania in cooperation with the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology. This Forum is an international event designed to create a high-level discussion platform about innovation, best practices and impact for European economy growth and well-being including the situation in various countries and regions (foremost, the Baltic Sea Region).
The session “Innovation in Life Sciences and Health” which will take place on 5th December, is covered by the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and the Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry Association (Lithuania). The objective of this session is to discuss how open innovation and open collaboration through public private partnerships can contribute to tackling the most urgent societal priorities of Horizon 2020 in the area of healthcare with practical examples from the IMI, one of the most effective examples of open collaborations and the biggest ever PPP in biopharmaceutical R&D set by the EU and the pharmaceutical industry and other national and local initiatives such as Top Innovation Pharma in the Netherlands, and the Centre for Medical Innovation in Belgium. This event will feature presentations and discussions on the main features of these instruments, as well as their achievements and impact on patients, society and European and local research ecosystem. The speakers of the session “Innovation in Life Sciences and Health” include Dr. Ruxandra Draghia-Akli, Director of the Health Director at the Research DG of the European Comission, Mr. Helmut Walerius, European Official Health Information Unit at the Directorate General Health and Consumers of the European Commission, Dr. Michel Goldman, Executive Director of the Innovative Medicines Initiative, Prof. Daan J. A. Crommelin, Chairman of the Top Innovation Pharma, Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics at Utrecht University (Netherlands), Dr. Erik Tambuyzer, Chairman of the Board at the Flemish Center for Medical Innovation (Belgium), Mrs. Lina Buzermanienė, Patient Representative at the Ethics Board of the IMI U-BIOPRED project (Lithuania), Prof. Žilvinas Padaiga, Dean at the International Relations and Study Centre of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (Lithuania). The session will be chaired by Prof. Dainius Pavalkis, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, Prof. Gediminas Černiauskas, Vice-minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania and Mr. Richard Bergström, Director General of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations
