About Vicki Sato
Vicki L. Sato, Ph.D, is presently the Professor of Management Practice at Harvard Business School, and Professor of the Practice in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, Harvard University. She is a business advisor to venture capital firm Atlas Venture and numerous other enterprises in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
Dr. Sato served as the President of Vertex Pharmaceuticals from 2000-2005. Prior to becoming President, she was Chief Scientific Officer, Senior Vice President of Research and Development, and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board. Under her leadership, Vertex created a diversified pipeline of drugs, including two HIV drugs, a treatment of hepatitis C, and a novel molecule for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. On January 27th, Dr. Sato will address business development in the biotechnology industry and the challenges of transforming academic intellectual property into viable commercial ventures.
