Location: Impact Hub Boston - 101 Main Street - Cambridge, MA

How do we get better at innovating, as teams and as organizations?  People have long focused on the mechanics of innovation, from hiring the deepest thinkers to instilling stage-gate management schemes, to stocking innovation rooms with lots of sticky notes.

Brevity invites you to join us in thinking differently.

What if we saw innovation as both a technical and a social activity?  How much more smoothly would our research teams run?  How much more intimately would we know our customers?  How much more effectively could we engage people in the inventions of their dreams?

Brevity invites you to join us in an afternoon of acting differently.

Together, we will structure scientific problems in ways that expose the social/technical connection, enabling you to to adapt and innovate more rapidly and with greater success.   The presenters, from Brevity, will introduce some exercises to support your ability to adapt, learn, and innovate.  Between them, Dr. Terry Barnhart and Marshall Wallace have more than thirty years of experience working in complex, rapidly changing environments helping organizations to adapt and thrive.   Dr. Terry Barnhart is the author of Creating a Lean R&D Systemand has worked on transforming R&D for over 20 years. Terry initiated and led an innovation improvement effort across Pfizer R&D as Senior Director of Strategy and Continuous Improvement. He has worked as a scientist at GE and a consultant at McKinsey and Company, and currently works as Head of Process Excellence at Sandoz. Terry holds a PhD in chemistry. Marshall Wallace is the author of Opting Out War: Strategies to Prevent Violent Conflict (with Mary Anderson) and has worked for over 15 years with humanitarian, development, and peace building organizations to improve their effectiveness.   Brevity helps people, organizations, and communities flourish by bringing together innovation and social change. You can find them online at their website, Twitter, or Facebook page.       The agenda for the day will follow this format:   12:00 - 1:00 pm     Gathering. Lunch provided.*
1:00 - 5:00 pm       Formal Workshop. 5:00 - 6:00 pm       Optional social reception to follow. Beer and wine provided.
