Topic Overview
In response to several requests from SEF members, this seminar will provide an overview of the identification of occupational and environmental health issues encountered when handling potent pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds. The development of comprehensive programs will be discussed as a method of managing the safe handling of these biologically active compounds. Case studies will be discussed as examples of health effects caused by occupational exposure to pharmaceuticals that have been seen in the research and production environments. Examples of containment devices and other control elements to reduce exposure potential to these materials will be shown.
