PathoGenetix, Inc. is developing an automated system for rapid bacterial strain typing in a broad range of complex sample types.
The company’s proprietary technology, called Genome Sequence Scanning (GSS), extracts and tags genomic DNA directly from complex biological samples, without the need for cultured isolates or primer design. No PCR or other amplification technique is necessary. GSS uses both the DNA fragment length and optical tags to create a genomic fingerprint, similar to a genomic barcode, which is recorded and compared to a database for strain identification. An initial result is available within five hours, and up to 48 samples can be processed in 24 hours.
