We help families who bring their sick child to Boston for critical conditions including cancer, cardiac surgery or organ transplants by providing comfortable, free housing and amenities.
Home Away Boston’s mission is to manage the logistics of being far from home with a critically ill child to care for. We provide comfortable housing at no charge, a caring community of volunteers, and other services as we see need for them. Families coming from afar for their child’s medical care face enormous hurdles coping with the complexities of the health care system, extraordinary costs, and emotional and physical stress. Our objective is to relieve as much of that stress as possible to enable them to focus on their child’s health and healing.
Home Away Boston currently operates two comfortable apartments in the Charlestown Navy Yard where a free Partners Healthcare shuttle makes the 2.2 mile run to MassGeneral every 15 minutes from early morning to late at night. The new Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is across the street. The minimum stay is 7 consecutive nights during active treatment/medical appointments.
