The Boston Biomedical Research Institute (BBRI) is dedicated to basic biomedical research to promote the understanding, treatment and prevention of specific human diseases. The areas of investigation concern the structure and function of muscle proteins, the mechanism of membrane transport processes, and the control of cell growth and gene function. A major focus is muscle cell biology, which has implications for neuromuscular and other muscle-related diseases such as asthma, hypertension, malignant hyperthermia and gastrointestinal disorders. When appropriate, the Institute collaborates in clinical studies of patients to apply the results of basic research to problems of human health and the cure of disease. Boston Biomedical Research Institute is an independent, not-for-profit institution.
