CORFO is the Chilean Economic Development Agency (Corporación de Fomento de la Producción, CORFO), established in 1939, is the state organization in charge of promoting economic development. Throughout its prolific history, CORFO has played a significant role in the economic development of the country. Its pioneer spirit lives on and today it supports entrepreneurs, businesspeople and innovators who need access to new technology and technical and financial assistance in order to succeed in world markets. Promoting joint public-private sectors initiatives, 21st Century CORFO fosters improved management, partnership practices, innovation, capital accumulation, market prospecting and the creation of new businesses, contributing to the balanced economic development of Chile. ASEMBIO is the Chilean Biotechnology Association. Founded in 2004 ASEMBIO is currently comprised of about 20 members that represent a cross-section of the 123 organizations (2006 census) within the Chilean biotechnology industry, covering from human health to industrial biotechnology. The CORFO-ASEMBIO alliance represents the partnership and commitment of the public and private sectors to develop a world-class biotechnology industry in Chile serving local, regional and global markets.
