The Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment (MOITI) works to expand the Massachusetts economy by marketing Massachusetts businesses internationally through focused export promotion, the attraction of foreign direct investment into the state, and protocol relationships with just about every foreign economic/trade delegation that visits the state. The Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment, with offices in Boston, Mexico City, Berlin and Shanghai, has three primary functions: Export Promotion. Focused export promotion through our offices in conjunction with the Massachusetts Export Center; Trade show participation primarily in Europe, but soon to expand to China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, where MOITI takes a pavilion on a speculative basis and recruits Massachusetts companies to participate at a greatly reduced price compared to exhibiting directly; Hosting reverse trade missions as long as they have a 50% buying component; and Trade missions that are oriented to specific traded industrial and service clusters in Massachusetts and co- sponsored with appropriate associations or chambers from the private sector. Foreign Direct Investment. For companies seeking to form a base in Massachusetts, MOITI and its partner agencies of “Team Massachusetts” assign a project specific “Business Resource” working group to assemble the unique resources that each project requires. This involves regional representatives and industrial cluster delegates, in addition to the state and quasi-government agencies that provide financing, staffing, infrastructure or other public incentives and support. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is one of the most economically friendly and supportive states in the country. Add our highly skilled work force, aggressive tax benefits, and significant financial and funding advantages and the message is quite clear: we’re the smartest and best location for your business and we want you in our state. Protocol. MOITI is directly responsible for the 28 sister-state and foreign development agency agreements which have been signed by the government of Massachusetts. This includes meeting with delegations and, when appropriate, providing assistance to almost every trade and economic delegation or official that visits the state.
