UConn’s Technology Incubation Program offers space and services to technology based companies. TIP fits within the larger Office of Technology Commercialization at UConn. Together with the Center for Science and Technology Commercialization and the UConn R&D Corporation, the three programs provide a continuum of resources to support entrepreneurs as they begin patenting and licensing and move to funding and commercialization. In addition to the TIP facility on the main campus in Storrs, there are two other incubators where the start-up companies can get started with the support of UConn resources, including Farmington, at the University of Connecticut Health Center and Avery Point where UConn’s Marine Sciences Department is located. Companies pay incubation fees with rights to remain in the incubator for up to three years and to access a variety of business and technical services as their needs change. TIP gives preference to companies commercializing technologies developed at UConn, but that is not a requirement. To be admitted to TIP, a company should be technology-based and have some synergistic relationship with UConn such as a current or historical technology link to the university; collaborations with faculty or use of graduates or students as employees.
