Spring Bank Technologies, Inc., (SBT) (the Company) is a biopharmaceutical company located in Milford, Massachusetts. Founded in 2002, the Company is currently engaged in the discovery and development of novel therapeutics with initial focus on antivirals. Technology Platform: The Company’s proprietary Nucleotide-based Technology (NBT) platform pioneered by the Founding scientist, uses a new Drug discovery paradigm involving small natural nucleotide compounds. The NBT concept can be integrated into structure-based drug design involving 3D-structures of selected target proteins. The Company’s goal is to leverage SBT’s unique drug discovery platform for the development of novel therapeutics against other diseases including asthma, allergy, inflammation, and cancer. Products under Development: The initial drug candidate SB 9000 developed against Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), is a highly potent, small molecule nucleotide with a unique mechanism of action involving selective inhibition of viral replication. Other Targets: Initial leads have been obtained against HCV and HIV. Lead optimization is under way. The selectivity, specificity and potency of the nucleotide compounds, make them highly effective and safe drug candidates for the treatment of other diseases. SBT is a Grant-based Company: The Company has received strong endorsement from the National Institutes of Health through 5-year $3.0 million for the period 2003-2008. In addition, NIH continues to fund significant IND-enabling preclinical studies of the lead HBV drug candidate through 2008 until IND.
