Teeing Off For Bio Education: Golf Classic Raises $155,000 For Schools
On Sept. 6, 300 golfers came out for MassBio’s 19th Annual Golf Classic to benefit the MassBioEd Foundation at the prestigious Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, raising more than $155,000.
The tournament featured 18 holes of golf, as well as a networking reception, raffles and an auction. Proceeds help support MassBioEd in its mission to build biotechnology literacy, prepare the life sciences workforce of the future and develop Massachusetts’ future biotechnology leaders through school programs, workforce training and lifelong learning.
The Foundation’s BioTeach program provides Massachusetts high school teachers with the skills and equipment necessary to integrate cutting-edge science into the classroom. Since its inception, BioTeach has raised and distributed more than $6 million in equipment, supplies and services to support secondary science education in 185 high schools. Through BioTeach, MassBioEd has provided laboratory learning and career exploration experiences for thousands of students and has trained more than 600 teachers.
Partnering with MassBio members, MassBioEd also works to align curriculum with industry needs, connect industry professionals with students, expose postdocs to career opportunities, and offer industry professional development courses.
