House passes Co-Pay Assistance Legislation
The Massachusetts House of Representatives unanimously approved legislation allowing Massachsuetts patients to use coupons, rebates and discount programs to help lower the cost of their prescription medications in a session yesterday.
The legislation (H4689, formerly H4320, also known as the Co-Pay Assistance or Coupon Bill) has been a MassBio legislative priority in this legislative session.
"In the current economy, it serves Massachusetts well to ensure all barriers to patient access (including one's out-of-pocket costs) are removed," MassBio President & CEO Bob Coughlin said in a letter hand-delivered to legislators just prior to the debate. "H4689 provides an important safety valve for patients who are struggling to afford the cost of the care they so desperately need."
MassBio will now turn attention to moving the legislation through the Senate.
