McCarter & English Adds High Technology Patent Group in New York

New York, N.Y. (June 13, 2012) -- McCarter & English LLP is pleased to welcome patent lawyers Gerald Levy, Keith J. McWha and Ronald E. Brown. The group practices in all phases of patent prosecution, strategic counseling, licensing, and litigation.

Hanley, the leader of the firm’s IP group. “Their legal expertise and backgrounds in mechanical, chemical and nuclear engineering will be great assets for our clients and perfectly complement our existing high tech practice.”

Gerald Levy, a registered patent attorney, practices in all phases of patent prosecution, licensing, strategic planning, and litigation. He tries cases in courts throughout the United States and before the International Trade Commission. Mr. Levy has been involved in domestic and international arbitration resulting in multimillion-dollar awards for his clients and in complex technology licensing and swapping agreements, including those for well-known consumer products and brands. He earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University. Mr. Levy has lectured on patent law at the Practicing Law Institute and authored the section on U.S. patent law in the treatise Doing Business in the United States.

Keith J. McWha is a registered patent attorney with both private practice and corporate in-house experience in counseling clients on intellectual property and regulatory matters. His technical expertise includes telecommunications, media and technology, information technology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, polymer science, renewable energy, industrial equipment, computer software, information technology and financial services. His international experience includes matters before the U.S. International Trade Commission concerning Section 337 Investigations. Mr. McWha is a chemical engineer whose regulatory practice focuses on biological products, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. He earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, his M.S. from the University of Massachusetts and his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, summa cum laude. He joins McCarter & English as a partner in our New York and Newark offices.

Ronald E. Brown’s patent practice focuses primarily on litigation, interferences, and prosecution in the fields of software and business methods, mechanical and electronic devices including medical instruments, storage and transportation of integrated circuits, reclosable packaging, and gamma ray spectroscopy. Mr. Brown is a nuclear engineer and prior to practicing law, he worked for Combustion Engineering, first in the Advanced Design Project Group of the Physics and Computer Analysis Department and then in the Software Design Group of the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department. Mr. Brown earned his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, his M.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University. He is on the Board of Directors of the Penn State Nuclear Engineering Society. He joins McCarter & English as Special Counsel in our New York office.
