March 19, 2013

WILMINGTON, DE (March 14, 2013) - Law firm McCarter & English, LLP is pleased to announce that Dr. Eric J. Evain has joined the firm as a partner in the Wilmington office. Dr. Evain will focus on litigating complex intellectual property infringement cases.

“Eric is an exceptional attorney with a remarkable career, first as a corporate research scientist and now as an intellectual property litigator,” said Firm Chairman Michael P. Kelly. “He is a welcome addition to our firm.”

“I am honored to be joining McCarter,” said Dr. Evain. “It has a top-rate reputation for its IP litigation and patent prosecution practice in Wilmington, which makes it ideal for clients having complex litigations."

For more than 15 years, Dr. Evain has been litigating complex intellectual property infringement cases for many of the world’s largest chemical and manufacturing corporations. He represents companies operating in a wide variety of chemical-related fields, including specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers, petroleum, surface coatings and consumer products. Dr. Evain regularly counsels clients regarding freedom to operate opinions and trade secret protection strategies in all the above areas, as well as in the automotive, aerospace and high performance composites industries. He has successfully enforced patents and trade secrets and defended companies accused of infringement throughout the country.

After receiving his Ph.D. in organic chemistry, Dr. Evain worked for over ten years as a corporate research scientist. His experience spanned bench research through process development to full-scale production in the specialty chemicals, petroleum and polyolefin industries. He has authored and presented over a dozen scientific articles and is a named inventor on numerous U.S. and foreign patents.

Dr. Evain is certified as a Mediator by the Delaware Supreme Court and has received extensive training as a Special Master in e-discovery disputes. He received his J.D., cum laude, from the Widener University School of Law, his Ph.D. from the University of Idaho and his B.S., magna cum laude, from Northland College. While attending law school in the evenings, Dr. Evain was a Wolcott Fellow (judicial law clerk) to Justice Joseph T. Walsh of the Delaware Supreme Court.
