Tsongas tours Sunovion in Marlborough
MARLBOROUGH – June 3, 2014 – Today, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas visited Marlborough’s Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, one of the city’s ten largest employers.
Sunovion is a leading pharmaceutical company based in the Third District. Sunovion specializes in discovering, developing, and commercializing therapeutic products that advance the science of medicine in the Psychiatry & Neurology and Respiratory disease areas and improve the lives of patients and their families.
Congresswoman Tsongas met with employees and with top company executives, including Mr. Nobuhiko Tamura, Vice Chair, Executive Vice President, Global Clinical Development; Mr. Richard Russell, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer; and Mr. Albert Parker, Executive Vice President and General Counsel.
Congresswoman Tsongas frequently visits and tours various businesses and organizations in communities across the Third District to learn about the issues important to them.
“Touring our local businesses is an invaluable way to hear firsthand from employees and executives about their challenges and best practices,” said Congresswoman Tsongas. “These visits lead to valuable discussions about ways the federal government can partner with local businesses to help foster regional economic growth. Sunovion, in particular, is part of the developing health and medical sciences cluster in the metro Boston area. They are an example of the widespread, cutting-edge research and development hub that exists here, which is helping to foster a new generation of innovation in the Commonwealth.”
"We were extremely pleased to host Congresswoman Niki Tsongas at our corporate headquarters in Marlborough,” said Mr. Nobuhiko Tamura. “Sunovion is very committed to strengthening the community where our employees live and work and ensuring a thriving life sciences industry in Massachusetts. We had the opportunity to discuss several important topics and ideas with the Congresswoman and her team and look forward to working together to achieve these mutual goals.”
Sunovion, an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd., is headquartered in Marlborough. More information about Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. is available at www.sunovion.com.
