National Institutes of Health Funding

The Issue

Ground breaking research at hospitals and universities is dependent on adequate funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is the largest single supporter of biomedical research in the United States. This year, it will increase spending by less than 1 percent.

Our Position

The proposed increase in spending by the NIH is a threat to the promise of ongoing innovation in the Commonwealth. It will force research programs to slow down and prevent new ones from launching crucial work.
