Stem Cell Research

The Issue

One of the most promising areas of research in medical science today is the potential to use stem cells to better understand diseases and find treatments and cures. This research has become controversial because it involves the use of human embryos.

Our Position

The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council opposes the use of cloning technology for the purpose of initiating and bringing to term a human pregnancy, commonly called human cloning.

We support therapeutic cloning, which is the use of cloning of human cells, genes and tissues for the purpose of medical research and for the treatments of such conditions as Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, diabetes and spinal cord injuries.

We are actively working to pass legislation on both state and federal levels that reflect this position.
