Drug Importation
The Issue
Some Americans are ordering their medications from other countries to take advantage of cheaper prices there.
Our Position
There are no adequate measures to ensure that drugs imported from other countries are safe for consumers. These medications are not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They put consumers at risk of fraud and are potentially dangerous.
The United States has the strongest drug pipeline in the world because of our free market. Our life sciences industry has grown while others with strict price controls have withered.
We oppose measures designed to bypass our existing regulatory system and make it easier for consumers to import such medications.
