Drug Price Controls
The Issue
There is concern among the general public about the cost of pharmaceuticals. Consumer advocates have issued a number of studies raising alarms about the rising prices that have resulted in proposals to put in place artificial caps.
Our Position
We are concerned that there are those who struggle to pay for their medications. Price controls, however, will do little but hamper the future development of new and better pharmaceuticals. The free market attracts investors willing to take the risks needed for successful innovation. We believe better alternatives are targeted government and private programs that help low income individuals afford the medications they need.
