Overview

There is power in numbers. By joining together, members of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council have a stronger presence in the marketplace, which allows us to win bigger discounts and better service.

Our Purchasing Consortium was the first in the industry, developed through input from member companies as part of ongoing efforts to help them make their businesses more efficient. The consortium is run by a manager with guidance by the MBC chief business officer and president. All policies and contracts are reviewed by legal counsel.

We choose primary suppliers through a formal process that starts with an analysis to determine the purchasing needs of our members. We then develop a Request for Proposal based on that information.

Throughout this process, the consortium is guided by ad hoc committees of volunteers from member companies. These groups offer valuable insight into the needs of members who will directly benefit from the contracts. We encourage all employees of member companies with knowledge in these areas to participate. The combined expertise of member company representation allows for a broader view and varied feedback when choosing a supplier.

Mission

The Purchasing Consortium mission is to provide value to members of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council by leveraging their combined purchasing power to negotiate contracts with primary suppliers providing cost savings and a high level of service.
