						<title>Xenetic Biosciences </title>

						<link>http://www.massbio.org/membership/membership_directory/1383-xenetic_biosciences/member_detail</link>

						<guid isPermaLink="true">http://www.massbio.org/membership/membership_directory/1383-xenetic_biosciences/member_detail</guid>

<description>Xenetic Biosciences focuses on developing next generation therapeutics for Orphan Diseases. We have three patented platform technologies available for the development of therapies, PolyXen, ImuXen and Oncohist.

PolyXen Technology
PolyXen is Xenetic Biosciences patented polysialyation technology platform for therapeutic compounds. Polysialyation is the attachment of defined lengths of the biopolymer polysialic acid (PSA) to a therapeutic compound. Various sizes of polysialic acid from 10 KDa to 70 KDa can be differentially attached to almost any therapeutic compound. This allows significant modification of the therapeutic compound’s physical, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. These modifications can include alterations in proteolytic degradation, thermal stability, biological half-life, immunological profile, therapeutic profile and formulation requirements. Polysialyation is all natural and is biodegradable to sialic acid. PolyXen is a next generation alternative to PEGylation for the delivery of therapeutic compounds. Xenetic Biosciences has clinical programs using the PolyXen technology for the treatment of anemia and cystic fibrosis. There are pre-clinical programs in progress using growth hormone, oxyntomodulin, insulin and blood factors.

ImuXen Technology
ImuXen is Xenetic Biosciences patented liposomal technology platform for the creation of new vaccines and the improvement of existing vaccines. It enables the simultaneous delivery of multiple potential antigens. Two or more proteins, peptides, DNA regions or polysaccharides are combined into a single liposomal vesicle. This allows the delivery of all the antigens to the same antigen presenting cell for processing at the same time. Proof of concept pre-clinical studies have shown a stronger and faster antibody response compared to adjuvant controls or singularly administered liposomal controls. Dependent on the antigens used, multiple vaccines can be delivered with a single injection, there can be a reduction in the number of doses required and a reduction observed side effects. Xenetic Biosciences has a clinical program using the ImuXen technology for multiple sclerosis. There are pre-clinical programs in progress for HIV and Alzheimer’s disease.

OncoHist Clinical Program
OncoHist is Xenetic Biosciences’ patented, recombinant form of human Histone H 1.3. This is a novel form, N-bis-met-histone H 1.3, of the molecule. It has demonstrated a significant anti-proliferative effect against a variety of over 60 cancer cells in vitro. It appears to have a novel mechanism of action that is currently part of a joint research effort with Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A phase 1 clinical trial against relapsed or refractory AML was successfully completed in Germany. OncoHist was shown to be well tolerated up to at least 628 mg/m2 with no significant safety concerns. No treated patients developed auto-antibodies against OncoHist. It is now in Phase 1 clinical trials in Russia in combination with cytarbine against primary refractory or relapsed acute myeloid leukaemia.

<description>PathoGenetix, Inc. is developing an automated system for rapid bacterial strain typing in a broad range of complex sample types.
The company’s proprietary technology, called Genome Sequence Scanning (GSS), extracts and tags genomic DNA directly from complex biological samples, without the need for cultured isolates or primer design. No PCR or other amplification technique is necessary. GSS uses both the DNA fragment length and optical tags to create a genomic fingerprint, similar to a genomic barcode, which is recorded and compared to a database for strain identification. An initial result is available within five hours, and up to 48 samples can be processed in 24 hours.
