MassBio Releases Statement on Secretary Clinton’s Healthcare Proposal

Jan 07, 2016

Statement from MassBio President & CEO Robert K. Coughlin on Secretary Clinton’s healthcare proposal:

MassBio welcomes a national conversation on the future of healthcare and access to the innovative therapies and cures being developed across Massachusetts today.

However, Secretary Clinton’s proposal would have a dramatic chilling effect on the pursuit and investment in breakthrough research with very little impact on the real goal—solving the scientific and medical challenges that patients face every day. In fact, some of the proposed policies—reducing data protection for biologics, allowing the importation of drugs without proving their safety—have already been thoroughly debated, discussed and rejected in Congress.

We encourage candidates and legislators to keep the patients at the forefront of their policy-making, and look forward to a dialogue over the next months and years on how we can tackle the world’s most intractable diseases and save the lives of patients around the globe.
