NATICK, Mass. – (January 2, 2020) – ABI-LAB announced an agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific to support the growth of life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceutical start-ups in the MetroWest region of Massachusetts.

Through this agreement, Thermo Fisher is the preferred vendor and supplier for ABI LAB 2, a new bio-incubator in Natick, Massachusetts offering lab suites for life sciences, biotech and medical technology start-ups. The new laboratories will be outfitted with Thermo Fisher’s instruments, equipment, reagents, consumables, technology and software.

"Founders of life science companies face many obstacles,” said Gary Kaufman, chief operating officer at ABI-LAB.  “Our facility’s state-of-the-art laboratory spaces and specialized equipment provide a foundation to help startups grow exponentially. As a leader in providing instruments and services that accelerate discovery and increase efficiency in the lab,  Thermo Fisher Scientific was a natural partner for us. We’re excited to bring startups in the MetroWest region the high-quality, reliable products, instruments and services they need to fuel their scientific discoveries.”

Thermo Fisher will also provide on-site training, application support and a supply center for tenants to purchase reagents and consumables in the common lab.  Instructors will also offer “lunch and learn” seminars to share best research practices and workflows for development of new technologies.

“We are excited to work with ABI-LAB to provide innovative companies with the tools they need to accelerate science,” said Kim Baltier, vice president of global commercial operations, biosciences, at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “We’re committed to providing scientists with high-quality technologies, products and services to simplify workflows and improve productivity in laboratory research.”

ABI LAB 2 is ABI-LAB’s second incubator space in the MetroWest region. The original 17,000-square-foot incubator space, ABI LAB 1, is home to 18 entrepreneurial life science companies.

"VirTech Bio chose ABI-LAB as a turnkey operation for our biotech pharmaceutical laboratory over a year and a half ago and it has exceeded our expectations for delivering a smooth operation ,” said Rick Light, head scientist at VirTech Bio. “The new agreement with Thermo Fisher will complement our research and help enable us to focus on what’s most important: the science.”
