August 19, 2019 (CAMBRIDGE, MA) – The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio®) today announced that Governor Charlie Baker will deliver remarks at its upcoming Digital Health Impact 2019 conference which makes its debut on opening day of Biotech Week Boston on September 9th.

“Massachusetts is the #1 life sciences cluster in the world because of industry’s ongoing partnership with academia and government – something we’re trying to replicate with digital health, as it has the potential to transform drug discovery and development,” said Robert K. Coughlin, President and CEO of MassBio. “We are thrilled to support Governor Baker’s Mass Digital Health Initiative to strengthen digital health innovation in the Commonwealth and drive further convergence with the life sciences. We’re looking forward to welcoming him at MassBio’s first Digital Health Impact 2019.”

In 2015, Governor Baker and his Administration identified digital health as an emerging industry cluster and a key component of the Commonwealth’s economic development plan. The following year, the Governor announced the establishment of a collaborative digital health initiative which brings together public, private, academic, and healthcare leaders to build a stronger and more connected statewide digital health ecosystem.

“Massachusetts is home to a world-leading biotech and digital health hub,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “The Mass Digital Health initiative in collaboration with valued partners like MassBio sustains Massachusetts’ national leadership in digital health innovation that both drives economic impact and improves healthcare outcomes and costs.”

Massachusetts ranks second only to California in Rock Health’s ranking of the top five states by number of privately held digital health startups — the number of digital health companies that have received $2M+ in funding since 2011. Behind Massachusetts are New York, Texas, and Illinois respectively. MassBio’s Digital Health Report conducted by Deloitte reinforces the Commonwealth’s leadership position in digital health, especially given its inherent lead in the life sciences that will help spur innovative digital health companies with the power to transform medicine.

Digital Health Impact 2019 will feature thought leadership from the foremost digital health influencers including John Nosta and Chrissy Farr, CNBC. The program is packed full of keynotes, panel discussions and a fireside chat on founding digital health startups. The event will take place at the InterContinental® Boston on Monday September 9, 2019 beginning at 10:00 AM ET. Register online: http://bit.ly/2Yb9M4r
