In addition to our diverse customer base and broad range of high-quality services, our advantages in the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry include:
We are the industry’s largest, most efficient and fully integrated operator, as well as the industry’s environmental and safety leader. Stericycle has been a pioneer in the regulated medical waste industry since 1989 and has partnered with thousands of healthcare facilities across the country to ensure their compliance and safety.
Our regulatory compliance team has unsurpassed knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, FDA and accrediting agencies (e.g., The Joint Commission) regulations and standards. We help decipher complex federal, state and local regulations to insure our customers are in compliance.
We are proud of the services we perform and the progress we have made in keeping our communities safe and healthy. We continuously strive to find ways to minimize the effect of our operations on the environment. By using advanced routing technology and more efficient transportation logistics, Stericycle is reducing miles driven, improving fuel economy and ultimately reducing total energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Solutions to Help You Meet Your Sustainability Goals
Stericycle supports the proper handling of regulated medical waste, sharps waste and unused drugs, from employee training of proper disposal methods through waste collection and transport in compliance with Federal, state and local law. These services utilize reusable containers helping a customer reduce their carbon footprint and keep medical waste out of the environment. Promoting the use of reusable containers has avoided the need for at least 94.3 million pounds of plastic for the production of new containers. This means a savings of nearly 3,000 barrels of oil which would have been required for the production of new, single-use plastic containers.
Continuous Process Improvement
We continuously look for ways to raise the bar with sustainability and have several facilities that recycle sharps waste. The disinfected and pelletized plastic can then be recycled into new plastic products, such as plant pots and paint trays. We are looking to expand operation to other facilities across the country.
Stericycle recycled at least 4.4 million pounds of corrugated cardboard. In addition to reducing 1.5 million gallons of water and 101,000 gallons of oil consumption in the production of new boxes, recycling of cardboard boxes saved nearly 20,000 cubic feet of waste from going to landfills.
Established National Network
Stericycle owns and operates processing facilities across the country and utilizes a computer based, bar-coding system to track waste from the point of generation to treatment. This allows customers to track and have documentation for their medical waste. Utilizing real-time GPS data during transportation, we can forecast arrival time, provide quick call resolution and avoid traffic and accidents to ensure we can provide customers the best level of service.
Should there be any interruption in service, transportation or waste processing Stericycle can easily switch our treatment capacity to any number of other backup facilities due to our national footprint and standardized processes. This assures a dependable uninterrupted service to all our customers.
We are able to leverage our extensive experience and proven capabilities to service our customers, even when faced with crisis in an ever changing and highly regulated industry. Stericycle was the first to respond and partner with the CDC and DOT during the Ebola crisis in 2014.
