Improving Diversity in the Life Sciences Industry
In order for the life sciences industry in Massachusetts to continue its success, diversity and inclusion cannot be just another initiative. It must be the backbone of company policy from the top down and reflected in recruitment, retention and promotion strategies.
Aside from being the right thing to do, there is ample reason for companies to seek diversity. Numerous studies are clear: more diverse businesses are more successful. Perhaps more importantly, in such a competitive environment companies cannot thrive without drawing from the best talent on earth – no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or otherwise.
MassBio is proud to take a leadership role in driving increased diversity and inclusion within the life sciences industry. We recently released a new policy to ensure diversity at all of our programs, forums, and conferences, along with those events MassBio representatives participate in.
Although the first phase of our initiative, which kicked off with an open letter signed by more than 100 industry leaders, is focused on gender diversity, we believe this will create a foundation for overall broader exploration of how to improve all levels of diversity and inclusion.
In an effort to facilitate the sharing of best practices, third party resources, and stories of companies doing well, we've put together several resources:
- MassBio & Liftstream’s Gender Diversity Report: “Opening the Path to a Diverse Future”
- 3rd Parties Supporting Gender Diversity
- Stories from Companies/Individuals on Successful Diversity Efforts
