This year I attended the recent 2018 MassBio Annual Meeting, which was my first experience with this gathering. First, I should complement MassBio for being an incredible community. People often talk about collaboration and sharing information, but MassBio is indeed a leading example of the true meaning of these words. The organization brings together representatives from biotech, academia, investors, government and service providers. All parties bring this incredible sense of commitment to exchange. I think this is unprecedented and this is also the reason for the success of the Cambridge/Boston region in the biotech sector.

When people ask “why did you decide to go to Boston”, my answer is: “Boston and Cambridge are the places where money meets research.” Today, I should add that this is not only the place where money meets research, but more: this is where money meets research with the right spirit to be successful in the complex world of biotech.

MassBio is a great organization committed to advancing leadership in the life sciences to grow the industry. KCR joined MassBio in May 2017, after opening our office in Boston.

MassBio’s Regional Mixers provide an excellent forum to meet colleagues and industry professionals and engage with those you may never have met otherwise. They offer a setting conducive to networking with others from our field in a friendly and fun way. MassBio does an excellent job of taking care of everything – you just need to show up! Not only was the food and venue at the last mixer I attended great, but I also met many more people than I had expected.

Once again, MassBio really came through with helping to connect Genma with the right help at the right time, which in this case was the Sullivan Group. MassBio eliminated the need for us to vet several different vendors, which would have taken time we did not have, and the Sullivan Group was amazingly fast in setting us up with insurance in just a few days so we could nail down a contract with a big pharma. The close network that MassBio maintains is invaluable to members – if they can’t solve a problem for you, they connect you with those that can.

In my experience, MassBio enables different areas of the biotech community to interact in a relaxed manner through social and networking events. They also put together relevant programming that allows members to get a taste of areas outside their own expertise and are a driving force to help keep the pipeline of future scientists in the state through the MassBioEd programs. All this with the added benefit of the powerful purchasing consortium that is available to member companies (which every company that I have worked for has enjoyed)!

MassBio is the premier trade organization in the country. MassBio offers a variety of unmatched services for its members, spanning the spectrum from lively, topical and informative educational forums; robust business development programs; animated networking events, both social and professional; lobbying initiatives; and unique opportunities to interact with a broad and deep cross-section of Massachusetts’ signature industry. No other trade organization in this country provides such myriad opportunities and events for its members. For the price of admission, there is no better value for any professional in the health care, biotech, health care services, medical device, and pharma industry sectors.

MassBio has always been an essential partner in supporting and expanding our life and health sciences industry cluster throughout all of Massachusetts. The success of the Worcester/ Cambridge/Boston Biomedical Corridor is a shining example as well as a great tribute to their outstanding efforts in promoting our industry not only here at home, but throughout the US and around the globe. We are the world-renown leader in biotechnology because we all work together with MassBio to ensure our continued success.

Impactful sciences happens when you bring people together to share their ideas and perspectives. MassBio does a great job of bringing members of the Cambridge biotech and pharma communities together through innovative events. Being a member has helped our company get involved in many ways through roundtable discussions, conferences, and regional mixers where you can connect with other professionals in a more relaxed setting.

The friendly staff at MassBio have provided me with great resources and connections. They host workshops and events that cover a wide array of topics that are very helpful. I am a proud member of MassBio.

MassBio provides a great service to the MA biotech community. Cydan participates in the MassCONNECT program which helps cultivate the next generation of biotech entrepreneurs and companies. We attend the MassBio pharma days where we have engaged with potential partners and collaborators, and I have enjoyed the CSO meetups and seminal panels discussions.
