Inaugural Event Shines Spotlight on the Convergence of Life Sciences & Digital Health, To Debut on Opening Day at BiotechWeekBoston

July 8, 2019 (CAMBRIDGE, MA) – The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio®) today announced the launch of a new event, Digital Health Impact 2019, to be held at the InterContinental® Boston on September 9, 2019, the opening day of Biotech Week Boston. The premier summit will explore how life sciences companies may capitalize on the power of data and digital technologies in transforming drug development and discovery, and ultimately patient care.

“We are experiencing a seismic shift in the biotech landscape, where more and more companies are benefiting from using digital health tools,” said Robert Coughlin, President & CEO, MassBio. “This transformation spans the entire biopharma ecosystem – from using digital health technology in the lab to gain actionable insights from data, thereby advancing research, to pharma companies partnering with digital therapeutics startups to improve patient care while reducing complexity and cost of clinical trials, to early drug discovery via artificial intelligence and machine learning.”

Digital Health Impact 2019 will convene more than 250 biopharma leaders who are looking for the latest digital health innovations and strategies that are moving the needle on drug discovery and development of new therapies that will better work within the growing value-based healthcare system which heavily relies on data and measurable outcomes. Featuring keynotes, panel discussions and fireside chats, the event will showcase the thought leadership of digital health luminaries who will share the big stage and real-world case studies on digital health innovation.

Earlier this year, MassBio commissioned Deloitte to conduct a study that examined the current state of the digital health industry in Massachusetts, the challenges facing its growth, and the opportunities for Massachusetts to lead. Digital Health Impact 2019 is a part of the roadmap to success to ensure digital health companies and their technologies have the best opportunity to converge with life sciences and support the growth of the digital health ecosystem. “Much of today's world is changing at an exponential rate. Yet, beyond magnitude, this change includes the critical element of direction. Together, they plot the course of innovation for humanity,” noted John Nosta, #1 global influencer in digital health, president of innovation think tank, NostaLab. “One glance at this transformative roadmap reveals that Massachusetts is at the epicenter of innovation, and these powerful and important changes will continue to point eastward to Boston.” Nosta will deliver the opening keynote at Digital Health Impact 2019.

“We are a unique region in the U.S., combining medical and technology expertise along with an entrepreneurial spirit like no other place in the country… It’s all about Boston,” said John Halamka, MD, Head of Innovation, Beth Israel Lahey Health, International Healthcare Professor, Harvard Medical School.
