Chinh H. Pham named finalist for “Attorney of the Year”

BOSTON – July 27, 2023 – Three attorneys from global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Boston office have been selected in the first-ever ALM | Law.com’s 2023 New England Legal Awards. Elizabeth W. Fraser, co-chair of the Boston Corporate Practice, is a winner in the category for “Best Mentors;” Robert A. Sherman, senior counsel in the Litigation Practice, is a winner in the category for “Lifetime Achievement;” and Chinh H. Pham, co-chair of the Venture Capital & Emerging Technology Practice and the Boston Intellectual Property (IP) & Technology Practice, is an “Attorney of the Year” finalist.  

 

The New England Legal Awards celebrates professional excellence in the law in Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. This year is the biggest group of winners in the history of the awards, as it previously only accepted attorney and law firm nominees from Connecticut. Honorees will be recognized at an awards ceremony Sept. 21 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, where the winners for “Attorney of the Year” and “Litigation Departments of the Year – General” will be formally announced.

 

Fraser concentrates her practice on advising public and private companies on corporate and securities law matters, including public debt and equity securities offerings, private placements of securities, and mergers and acquisitions, and advising institutional investors on their investments in publicly-traded companies. She regularly counsels public company boards and management on corporate governance matters, SEC disclosure and reporting obligations, marketplace compliance, executive compensation, director responsibilities, and fiduciary duties. Fraser serves as a career development liaison for the firm’s Boston office where she manages and coordinates the professional development program for associates in the office. She also co-leads the Boston office summer associate program.

Sherman has wide-ranging experience in government, law, and the private sector. With 30 years of legal, international, and public service experience, he brings a unique perspective and understanding of the global landscape in providing strategic counsel to clients on international issues, particularly involving EU countries. Sherman is a founding member and former co-managing shareholder of the firm’s Boston office. He has wide-ranging trial and regulatory experience in the areas of government investigations and litigation, internal corporate investigations – with an emphasis on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance – as well as consumer protection matters. Additionally, Sherman served as the U.S. ambassador to Portugal from 2014–2017, having been nominated by President Barack Obama and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate. As ambassador, he focused heavily on bilateral economic development and international security issues, such as cybersecurity, refugees, narcoterrorism, and NATO. In recognition of Sherman’s work in the country, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa decorated him with the country’s highest civilian award, the Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator.

Pham focuses his practice on the strategic creation, implementation, and protection of IP rights for technology and life science clients, ranging from venture-backed companies to multinational corporations. He works with his clients to leverage their key innovations for strategic commercial and business opportunities. In addition, Pham assists startup clients with strategies for leveraging their IP portfolio for high-value commercial opportunities and serves as a mentor to entrepreneurs and early-stage ventures through various incubator and accelerator programs. Pham was named to Get Konnected!’s 2023 list of Boston’s 50 Most Influential Asian-American Pacific Islanders and has been recognized among the “Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business” by the Asian American Business Development Center. He has also been recognized as a “Technology Law Trailblazer” by National Law Journal, a “Top Emerging Tech Lawyer” by TechCrunch, and a leading IP Strategist by IAM Strategy 300. Pham currently serves as president of the Boston Bar Association, is a member of the board of trustees of the Museum of Science, Boston, and is a past president of the National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys.
