UMass Lowell is excited to offer services through the Core Research Facilities (CRF) for use of their state-of-the art, non-GMP, pilot scale lyophilization facility.  The Lyophilization Lab (LyoBay) provides an R&D test bed for process development, scale-up and the development and application of new process analytical technologies. It also serves as a user facility for pre-clinical process development and training to support the local and national biotechnology industry.

The lyo at UML is a pilot scale unit with 1.9 m2 shelf area and a clean-in-place system.  The manufacturer of the system is SP Scientific (Warminster, PA and Gardiner, NY).  The freeze dryer is outfitted with a full complement of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tools to support process development and scale-up as well as training.  The LyoBay is a non-GMP facility with the goal of serving both academia and industry.  The facility was developed with the generous support from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and from the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL).
