After a seven-month search process led by a Board-level search committee with the help of an executive search firm, MassBio announced last week that it has selected Senator Joe Boncore to serve as its new Chief Executive Officer. On Saturday, federal unemployment insurance benefits related to the COVID-19 pandemic ended. These benefits included programs that extended the number of weeks an out-of-work employee could receive aid after exhausting state benefits and programs supplementing state benefits.
In Massachusetts, the state legislature returns from its August recess this week. The Joint Committee on Ways and Means is expected to resume its debate on how to best spend the billions of dollars allocated to Massachusetts as part of the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The joint committee will hold a hearing on Thursday that will focus on transportation, arts and tourism, climate, and infrastructure.
