Sanofi, MassBio, and Biocom Host First-Ever Bicoastal Partnering Day to Catalyze Industry Collaboration

Sep 15, 2020

September 15, 2020 (CAMBRIDGE, MA., & SAN DIEGO, CA) – Sanofi, MassBio, and Biocom today announced a collaboration to hold the first-ever bicoastal partnering day. Sanofi Partnering Day with MassBio and Biocom unifies the two organizations to provide Sanofi with a premier portal to connect with the most innovative biotech companies, entrepreneurs, academics, research institutions, accelerators, and incubators in Massachusetts, California, and across the U.S.

This pioneering event builds on both the success of previous MassBio Pharma Days® / Biocom Partnering Days that match biopharma companies with academic and early-stage targets for partnering opportunities, and Sanofi’s virtual R&D Day series to highlight the company’s capabilities, platforms, and expertise to deliver transformative treatments to patients.

“The ability to connect and partner is the lifeblood of the industry, but those activities have been severely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Massachusetts and California are home to the largest life sciences clusters in the world and by combining our efforts and networks, MassBio and Biocom can provide a premier forum to connect biopharma stakeholders in the virtual world,” said Robert K. Coughlin, President & CEO, MassBio. “We’re honored to work with Sanofi to pioneer this novel approach and look forward to replicating this model to catalyze industry collaboration across the country.”

Sanofi Partnering Day with MassBio and Biocom will be held on Friday, October 16th, 2020 from 11:00-12:30 PM EST. During the event, Sanofi will provide an overview of its R&D efforts, corporate development strategy, business areas, and novel and fully integrated approaches to partnering, and will engage in several virtual one-on-one meetings.

“Sanofi more than ever is focused on the development of first-in-class or best-in-class medicines and sees embracing partnerships that reinforce our already strong pipeline as a key pillar of our ambitions”, said Alban de La Sablière, Head of Partnering, Sanofi. “The unprecedented times we’re facing call for agility and creativity, and we are looking forward to strengthening our relationships with innovators to drive new collaborations that can help bring transformative treatments to patients.”

Sanofi’s interest areas for the event include oncology, immunology & inflammation, rare blood disorders, rare & neurologic diseases, and vaccines.

“This represents the first time we’ve formally collaborated with MassBio on activities that help our members advance their business in important ways,” said Jennifer Landress, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Biocom. “We truly appreciate novel ways to bring opportunities such as this to California biotechnology companies, and thanks to Sanofi for their interest in this event.”

Biotech companies and academics in Massachusetts seeking an invite to this event should contact Steve Powell at steve.powell@massbio.org and biotech companies and academics in California should contact Oscar Rodarte at orodarte@biocom.org.
