Statement by MassBio President & COO Kendalle Burlin O’Connell on the Verdict in the Derek Chauvin Trial

Apr 21, 2021

“Almost one year ago, the murder of George Floyd underscored the decades-long failure of equal justice in the United States. We express our deepest sympathy and support for the family of George Floyd, and hope that yesterday’s guilty verdict will give them a sense of peace and comfort.

“This is a somber moment for our country as a whole and our Black colleagues in particular. Know that we stand with you.

“While yesterday’s verdict was a step forward, it can’t be the last. Over the past year, personal and corporate commitments were made to do and to be better. We all must remain engaged and committed to action that results in long-lasting, meaningful change.

“MassBio remains at the ready to foster discussion, share learnings, and provide resources and networks so our members can make good on their promises from last May to address systemic racism head-on and reduce racial inequity across the life sciences. Together, we can build a stronger life sciences industry that is more equitable, more inclusive, and better serves our patient populations.”
