Hi everyone,

My name is Aditi Dosi, and I am a Civic Biology Fellow at Tufts University. I am partnering with the Howard Chen lab at Tufts Medical Center to create more inclusive science communication. My goal is to identify advocacy and support groups for cancer patients suffering from heart issues and to directly connect with them to hear about their unique stories and experiences. Oncoheart 2026 is an international conference that will be hosted on October 30th-November 1st, 2026, at Tufts Medical Center, and will serve as a forum for these patients who are interested in working together to have their voices heard and a prominent presence at a scientific conference. Understanding these patient perspectives through brief interviews could play a critical role in breaking institutional barriers that limit participation in science, based on barriers due to race, gender identity and expression, ethnicity, ability, and socioeconomic status.

If your organization is open to this, I would be grateful for guidance on whether there might be members interested in participating in these informal conversations or whether you would be willing to advertise some recruitment materials and/or information about the conference this summer (flyer attached to email).

More information about the conference and my mission is below:

OncoHeart 2026 is a cardio-oncology International research conference that will bring together interdisciplinary scientists and clinicians. My aim is to better integrate patient perspectives into early-stage biomedical research. This is because so often biomedical research excludes the very communities it aims to serve. The Civic Science framework confronts ideas surrounding who is allowed to engage with scientific research by reframing science as a bidirectional process shaped by the lived experiences of community members and scientists.

My goals are (1) to ensure research priorities better reflect patient experiences by including patients in the research process; and (2) to ensure patient voices are meaningfully included in spaces like scientific conferences and research planning. More specifically, I am hoping to learn from patients and survivors who are concerned about or have experienced cardiovascular effects related to cancer therapies in order to understand what concerns feel most urgent or under-addressed in the ongoing research in this area. These conversations would be purely informational and conversational, and not used for clinical data.

If you or someone you know may be interested in having this informal conversation in the upcoming weeks, please fill out the interest form. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at aditi.dosi@tufts.edu or 508-847-2777. Thank you so much for your time!
