Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast is a Greater Boston based nonprofit. One of 28 nonprofit milk banks in the United States, we provide safe, pasteurized human donor milk to medically fragile babies by 1) receiving raw human milk from vetted volunteer milk donors; 2) pasteurizing and processing the milk at our facility in Newton Upper Falls; and 3) distributing the milk, largely through hospital partners. Our work is credentialed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. The utilization of human donor milk is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization and numerous other health organizations. The use of donor milk, when a mother’s own milk is not available, reduces the risk of developing a life-threatening conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis, intraventricular hemorrhage, and sepsis.
