Invest Northern Ireland is Northern Ireland’s regional economic development agency. Our role is to partner with companies in North America and Northern Ireland to help grow and support their global footprint.
Building on cutting-edge research in our world-renowned universities and local companies, the region is a major player in the fields of Precision Medicine, Oncology, Chronic Diseases, Diagnostics, Medical Devices, Agri-bio and Connected Health Technologies.
Over the past few years, Northern Ireland industry, academia and government have made significant commitments to the development of Life Science capabilities with more than £225 million committed for infrastructure enhancement, collaborative research, new product development and staff training initiatives.
The Northern Ireland Life Sciences sector is made up of 250+ businesses employing over 9,000, with sales of £1.1b of which exports account for 80 per cent.
Key companies in the sector include the Almac Group, Randox, Norbrook, Terumo BCT and Fusion Antibodies. Northern Ireland can provide high levels of support for companies. This is underpinned by a culture of innovation and by government-led action to promote the translation of research into clinical treatments and also the development of patient stratification.
